This year we are going on an ENCOUNTER trip as opposed to a SERVE trip. ENCOUNTER is a lot like SERVE in that you are serving in the morning and going out to 'encounter' the local area in the evening. We are going to Flagstaff, Arizona, the week of June 20 - June 27 to help Hope Church with VBS. Our mornings will find us helping teach the VBS classes, leading worship, and participating in the dramas. In the afternoon (when the kids go home) we will be preparing lessons in the classrooms and practicing our dramas. In the evening, Dan Otten, our site coordinator, has many things planned such as rappelling to hiking all over the beautiful landscape of Arizona.
While we are there we will be going through a devotional called "Jesus on Leadership: Discovering the Secret of Servant Leadership" by C. Gene Wilkes. Wilkes challenges his readers through this two week devotional to learn how to wait for God to place you in the right position.
The team is really excited to see how the Lord is going to use them and how the area is going to be impacted by VBS.
